Christmas is here, bringing good cheer

December 10, 2017, 3:30pm - December 10, 2017, 8:30pm

Lovely Folks, Join us in this wonderful Christmas celebration that will take place in Jigsaw on the 10th of December! You can wear a Christmas prop to go with the celebration. The cheesiest the better! There will be some jolly tunes and a lovely crowd and on top of that you will be contributing to help people in a less fortunate situation. The wonderful Karen Cowley from Wyvern Lingo will be gifting us with her beautiful voice (www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFe7Ya5-16w, www.youtube.com/watch?v=egwkDB5ZzKI). We will also have Erdi Celebi, a Turkish based guitarist and Dave Marron an Irish guitarist and singer based in Dublin. Gavin Timlin from CreateSound.ie will be our DJ for the afternoon. Following the spirit of this season this event will support different causes and all the profits done this day will be donated to charity. 1 - The 5 euro entrance donation fee will head to the refugees staying in Greece. This can be paid at the door on the day. Folks in Direct Provision have free entrance. 2 - We are hoping to do a bake sale also, still figuring that bit out. The intention is that the money made during the bake sale will head towards Christmas gifts for the children staying in the Hatch Hall Direct Provision Centre. In case you don't know what Direct Provision is find at the end of this description a little bit of info and an article published about it in the Irish Times. If you are a talented or not so talented baker, but want to help don't hesitate to bring something to share! 3 - Also this event will serve to collect some clothes to donate to this same centre. We will be collecting: -Clothes and shoes (women, men, children) -Baby and children’s toys -Books for adults and children -Toiletries -Blankets Please be mindful when you donate. Think of what you would need when living in these circumstances and make sure you donate things that will be of use and are in a good condition. This is a BYOB event, so feel free to bring something to drink if you wish. There will be a kettle and some tea and biscuits available. Hope you can join us! Bring some friends, let's all gather, celebrate and support our friends! Hope to see you there! Catarina What is Direct Provision? People seeking refuge (asylum) in Ireland are placed in Direct Provision (DP) until the state decides whether they should receive refugee status or not. Many people have been stuck in DP for up to 10 years (more in some cases). They cannot work. Adults and children are given €21.60 per week. They often have no cooking facilities. It is common for one family to live in one room. Many DP centers are far from towns and villages. Institutionalised living makes it incredibly hard for people to create purpose and meaning in their lives and to integrate in a newly found society.
